Story so
far...
June 27th 2006 -
Project update
It's been some time since the last update but we 've
been busy!
A 'new' XR2 was acquired last October - a lovely 1986
example with only 65000 miles and in excellent condition. The best
features are that it's a non sunroof model so little rust and a stiffer/lighter
shell. Better still it's got the more powerful earlier CVH engine which
will come in handy for our new strategy!
We now plan to run the new car in Class E of the Ford Saloon's in 2007 after
a detailed preparation and testing. Also this give us a very good chance
of making a realistic bid for the championship with minimal cost and relatively
easy preparation as we already have most of the bits required to alter the car's
specification.
So far the suspension and brakes have been transferred from the old car.
The new car is currently road legal and so is undergoing some development
testing and clocking up some mileage running us about to our customers.
Only faults so far have been a split coolant hose and a bad electrical connector
for the radiator fan - not surprising for a 20 year old car! Naturally all
the hoses and other perishable items will be replaced in due course along with
an engine and carburettor refresh.
